The social networks are, almost every single one, centralized spying machines run by surveillance capitalists, designed to profile you and manipulate you on behalf of their customers the advertisers. You are the product, your digital soul is ground up and filtered and shifted and sold to the highest bidder in an electronic auction.
They decide which of your friends posts you will see by use of an AI designed to optimize your viewing of adverts, and hide your posts from your friends using that same AI manipulating them.
I’m trying to phase out of them and into a freer less corporate world where I decide what to read myself rather than it being dictated by terrible adversarial deep learning networks.
There is a better way. The activitypub federation of micro servers is owned by nobody, does no advertising, doesn’t record what you read or spy on your every click. Just your actual posts are public, and they are supposed to be.
Limited support for Facebook and Twitter is provided during the transition to less manipulative media.

Unless you are a tech or business geek, they do not want you and they will deliberately try to be boring to you. If your comment isn’t geeky enough, it’s down-modded very quickly. They shadow-ban without remorse.
/u/newPre on Reddit . Reddit has sub-forums which are vaguely interesting, but also often filled with trolls and idiots. I post there quite rarely.
